Vanessa… Freelance Writer

Do you need a writer who can handle technical information without a shudder? Vanessa has three years of experience working as a technical writer for Brown & Root Company. She wrote newsletter articles, brochures, and helped edit $500 million contracts for Brown & Root to build oil rigs and oil pipelines worldwide. Are you still unconvinced? How about the organic chemistry quiz that Vanessa wrote as an advertising ploy to catch the eyes of engineers reading petrochemical trade journals? The advertising ploy worked.

Perhaps you need a writer who can be less technical and more human. Vanessa also served as assistant editor and production manager at Bayou Publishing. She helped a team of psychologists edit and publish research about how Emotional Intelligence can help children with Attention Deficit Disorder. The psychologists practiced out of the same building as the publishing house, so Vanessa got to meet and play with many of these wonderful kids.

Vanessa has also taken on bizarre freelance jobs. One of her most remarkable ones was a human interest story she wrote for the Houston Press. The article described how a massage therapist lowered instances of violence by working in an after-hours club.

Vanessa has written three fully-staged plays, one of which won the Houston Young Playwrights Festival. She’s currently working on her MFA in Writing from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where she just received a grant to write and stage a tango show. She has received a Cultural Arts Council grant to teach poetry in the schools, and has performed in public schools through Young Audiences. She has studied playwriting under Broadway producer Stuart Ostrow, and her poetry has been published through the Houston Poetry Festival and in Susquehanna University’s “The Apprentice Writer.” Vanessa would love to give you some feedback on your literary work.
