ABOUT THE YACHT CLUB The Chicago Yacht Club's origins antedate the Chicago Fire. It was founded on July 31, 1869, when a young Scottish watchmaker and amateur sailor named Joseph Ruff commissioned an 18-foot catboat. From this simple beginning, it now enjoys about 1,400 members. Opened in 1923, the unique Belmont Clubhouse literally floats in the harbor. It offers spectacular views of the skyline, historic Lincoln Park and Chicago's most picturesque sailing harbor.
